Scott A. Hatfield Jr. is a veteran, author, and nonprofit founder who has dedicated his life to public service. Raised in a rural California town, he joined the military at 21 years old and served in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman, where he developed a lasting commitment to service, discipline, and the defense of the Constitution.
After completing his military service, Scott moved to Utah and continued his work in public service. His experience includes roles with the Department of Veterans Affairs, the United States Senate, and the Utah Department of Corrections, where he currently serves. Through these roles, he has gained firsthand experience working with veterans, assisting constituents, and supporting public safety in Utah’s communities.
Determined to expand his ability to serve, Scott pursued higher education and became the first in his immediate family to graduate from college. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science with an emphasis in American Government and Constitutional Studies from Utah Valley University and later completed a Master of Public Administration. During his academic career, he also studied abroad at Oxford University in England, where he gained broader insight into governance and democratic institutions.
In addition to his public service career, Scott is the President and Founder of the Utah Trail Association, a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting public lands, improving access to Utah’s natural spaces, and promoting responsible stewardship of the outdoors.
Scott has also been actively involved in Utah’s political and civic life. He previously ran for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District in the 2023 Special Election, Utah State House District 49 in 2024, and for the Utah Republican Party’s State Central Committee. He currently serves as a Precinct Chair in Salt Lake County and sits on the Utah Republican Party State Central Committee, continuing his commitment to grassroots leadership and civic engagement.
Scott lives in Utah with his wife and young daughter and remains committed to serving his community, his state, and his country with integrity and principled leadership.
